A Bengaluru Court Prohibits Broadcasting Of Defamatory Content About IAS Officer Rohini Sindhuri
On Thursday, a court in Bengaluru issued an ex-parte temporary injunction that prohibits IPS officer D Roopa Moudgil and 59 media companies from broadcasting defamatory content and making objectionable statements about IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri. Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge KS Gangannavar explained that this temporary injunction would not conflict with the service rules that regulate the conduct of both officers. The court further specified that Sindhuri should refrain from publishing or circulating any opinions on the subject matter of the case.
Advocate Channabasappa SN, appearing for Sindhuri, alleged that Moudgil had unlawfully obtained information from Sindhuri's mobile phone while she was in charge of the cyber division. The lawyer also contended that Moudgil had shared Sindhuri's private photos on Facebook and disclosed her personal mobile number, which led to numerous unknown individuals calling her.
After one of the defendant companies filed a caveat, the court issued an urgent notice and summons the lawsuit. Subsequently, the court also granted a temporary injunction to the remaining 59 defendants, including Moudgil.
On February 18th, Sindhuri became aware of several Facebook posts made by Moudgil in which she made various accusations against Sindhuri. Among these allegations, Moudgil claimed that Sindhuri had shared explicit pictures of herself with other IAS officers. This resulted in a public dispute between the two officers, which led the state government to transfer them both.
Later on February 21st, Sindhuri served Moudgil with a legal notice regarding her behavior and requested a written and unconditional apology, along with a compensation of ₹1 crore for the damage to her reputation and the mental distress caused by the situation.
