A LAWYER WROTE TO ALLAHABAD HC REQUESTING HIM TO INITIATE AN SIT TO INVESTIGATE THE CUSTODIAL DEATH OF 21-YEAR-OLD ALTAF IN A POLICE STATION IN UP

Advocate Amritpal Singh Khalsa wrote a letter to Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, requesting him to initiate a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a sitting HC judge to investigate the recent custodial death of 21-year-old Altaf in a police station in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.

"On 8th November 2021 at 8 pm, the father of the 21-year-old deceased voluntarily gave his son to the police in case of the elopement of a girl. On 9th November 2021, around 5 pm, his son died (within less than 24 hours in police custody). And when the father inquired about his son, he was thrown out of the police station."

The police claim that the 21-year-old took out the drawstring from his hoodie and hanged himself from the bathroom tap. Singh countered the claims by contending that the drawstring is of very small size and its thickness cannot bear heavyweight. Moreover, the tap of the bathroom is at a shallow height- heavyweight,

Adv Singh alleged that the Police officials hung the deceased. Singh urged the Court to take cognizance of the custodial death and constitute an SIT to ensure a free and impartial investigation.
