73 LAWYERS WROTE A LETTER TO CJI, URGING HIM TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE HATE SPEECHES DELIVERED IN HARIDWAR
After the hateful speeches took place in two different events organized in Delhi and Haridwar, 76 Supreme Court lawyers sent a letter to the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana. The lawyers urged the CJI to initiate suo moto cognizance of the open hate speeches calling for genocides of Muslims in order to make India a Hindu Rashtra.
The Lawyers requested the CJI initiate action against the accused persons u/s 120B, 124A, 153B, and 298 of the IPC.
It has been stated in the letter that the speeches delivered during the events organized by the Hindu Yuva Vahini and Yati Narsinghanand were not merely hated speeches but an open call for the murder of the Muslim community. The speeches posed a grave danger to the country's integrity and threatened the lives of Muslim citizens. The letter also mentioned that the recent speeches were a part of similar speeches they have come across in the past. And thus, events promoting ethenic cleansing need urgent judicial intervention to prevent such events that may become the order of the day.
