A SIX YEAR OLD GIRL WAS ABDUCTED AND RAPED BY AN AUTO DRIVER IN PUNE.

An auto driver abducted a six-year-old girl outside the Pune railway station and raped her in his vehicle at 1 am. The heinous incident took place even after the upped surveillance by the Police on auto drivers after the recent incident where a 14-year-old was gang-raped by 13 men (11 were auto drivers). 

Three other rickshaw drivers saw and identified Sagar Mandhare (39) kidnap the minor while she was sleeping with her parents on a footpath outside the Pune station. The rickshaw drivers tried to catch the accused but he dodged them. They immediately alerted the police and the family of the victim. The police with the help of other drivers traced the accused to the 3rd floor of Somshankar Chambers, in front of City Pride Theatre. The victim was immediately taken to the Sassoon hospital. 

The Bund Garden police arrested Sagar after the girl's father, who recently came from Uttar Pradesh, registered a complaint. The father of the victim said "I thought Pune would be safer than my village. But now I am worried about my two other daughters. I feel helpless and guilty for not being able to protect my 6-year-old child"

This incident clearly establishes that despite the surveillance to check the activities done by the auto-drivers, the police department seems to be failing to provide even the basic protection.
