ALLAHABAD HC - IT'S BEEN 75 YRS SINCE INDEPENDENCE STILL CASTE SYSTEM IS DEEPLY ROOTED IN OUR SOCIETY.
The Allahabad High Court recently observed that it's been 75 years since independence, still the society is not able to get rid of the caste system. It is a deep-rooted menace in our society. Single-judge Justice Rahul Chaturvedi said that our society claims to be educated, however, it displays double standards by perpetuating caste.
The Court observed the above while granting bail to one Sanni Singh in a murder case. The Court said that a well-off person must protect the underprivileged. It is high time for introspection in the larger interest of the nation.
In this instant case, Sanni Singh was charged under the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for a murder case. The FIR had been lodged based on a complaint filed by the elder brother of a man who had been murdered by a group of more than 17 people. The brother alleged that his brother, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste, was posted as the Gram Panchayat Adhikari in Gorakhpur and during the training period, he developed intimacy with an upper-caste woman. The special judge convicted the accused and hence the present criminal appeal.
The Court granted bail and said "Keeping in view the nature of the offence and submissions of the counsels and taking into account the period of detention already undergone. I am of the view that the appellant has made out a case for bail." The accused was ordered not to tamper with evidence and to appear before the trial court whenever called upon.
