BJP corporator Anand Ramesh Rithe filed u/s 306, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code for threatening and abetting the suicide of a small businessman who died by hanging himself from the ceiling.

 

BACKGROUND

Sanjay Mahadev Surve's son lodged a complaint in Dattawadi police station against Rithe for deliberately insulting and harassing his father.

The Story of harassment began in April, Surve who live in ward no. 29 of Dattawadi, owned a bicycle repair shop, got a JIO mobile phone tower installed and placed it on the terrace of his building. Rithe the BJP corporator who lived in ward no. 30, began demanding a cut for the tower from Sanjay Surve. When Surve refused to pay the amount, Rithe threatened to file before the Pune Municipal Corporation and remove the tower. Even after the threat, Surve did not agree to pay any cut to Rithe. Following which the BJP corporator misused his power and filed a false complaint which leads to the dismantling of the tower in June. The BJP corporator continued threatening the deceased; he threatened to demolish Surve's house. Unable to bear the politician's harassment, he took his life.
