Supreme court closes the inquiry against 46th CJI Ranjan Gogoi regarding allegations of sexual harassment against him after 1 year 9 months. The top court bench headed by Justice SK Kaul observed that the inquiry panel headed by former Supreme Court Judge AK Patnaik had submitted a report. The report said that the conspiracy behind the sexual harassment case could not be ruled out. It also mentioned certain decisions and verdicts given by former CJI Ranjan Gogoi during his tenure could have triggered the allegations, including Assam CAA-NRC. The court also noted that after a lapse of almost 2 years, recovery of electronic evidence and records was not possible and thus, this case had to be closed down. The court disposed of the pending case observing that there is no necessity to keep the case going on.
