Recently, a couple approached the Saswad police seeking protection after their families opposed their union and intimidated them with consequences. But, on the opposite, the police booked the husband under provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

As per the police, the boy was 20 years old and the girl was barely 19. They ran away from home and married at a temple on March 17.

The girls' parents wanted her to concentrate on her studies therefore, they forbade her from seeing the boy. But the duo was stubborn about their marriage and decided to head to Alandi to marry. After their marriage, the girl informed her father of the nuptials. The father threatened the couple, they immediately went to Saswad police station for filing a complaint against her father. The girl’s father rushed to the Alandi police station after learning about their marriage. He informed them that the boy had not completed 21 years of age. In view of the same, the Alandi police registered a case of child marriage against the youth.

Sub-inspector Rohan Gaikwad justified the act by saying that the youth has been booked under the child marriage act as he has not crossed 21. Being a 21-year-old boy, he is not allowed to get married legally. However, the girl can get married as she is a 19-year-old. Her parents registered a complaint in this matter and the Police are further investigating the matter.
