On 11 November 2022, the Delhi High Court dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of Justice DY Chandrachud as the Chief Justice of India. A review petition was filed against the order which was again dismissed by the Delhi High Court imposing Rs. 1 lakh penalty on the petitioner.

As per Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Vikas Mahajan, no ground was established in the review petition as well, and accordingly, it was dismissed. The judges even mentioned that the petitioner can file a petition in the Supreme Court of India if he desires so. As per the judges, rejection was based upon the baselessness of the petition, as the review is only done when there is an error in an order, which is not the case here.

The petitioner is the president of an organization named Gram Uday Foundation and a cost of Rs. 1 Lakh is imposed on them. As the Court noted, it was a “classic case of a causeless action filled with conjecture, speculation and wishful thinking”.
