Defamation Case Filed Against Rahul Gandhi For His Comment On RSS
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has found himself involved in a legal battle after a defamation complaint was filed against him in the Haridwar Court. The complaint pertains to an alleged comment made by Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in January this year, where he referred to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the ‘Kauravas of the twenty-first century'. The complaint has been filed by Advocate Arun Bhadauria on behalf of RSS worker Kamal Bhadauria, under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The case is scheduled to be heard on April 12 in the Haridwar court in Uttarakhand.
The complainant has accused Rahul Gandhi of making derogatory comments against RSS during his speech at the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kurukshetra. The RSS worker, Kamal Bhadauria, who filed the case under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, alleged that the remark hurt the sentiments of the country's people. He further stated that Rahul Gandhi's comments had divided Sanatanis into Tapasvis and Pujaris, which was unacceptable.
In a separate defamation case filed against Rahul Gandhi by BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi for his "all thieves have Modi surname" remark, a Patna court has directed the Congress leader to appear before April 12. The court's order comes after the BJP leader filed the case in 2019.
