Court: A Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad

The Delhi High Court recently directed the Delhi government to assure that the school girls in the national capital get an uninterrupted supply of sanitary napkins. The bench passed the direction while disposing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the non-distribution of sanitary napkins under the Kishori Yojana.

The Department of Education (DOE) formulated and adopted the scheme to provide girl students with napkins to maintain hygiene and health. However, the scheme was stopped in January 2021, putting the students in great difficulties. The Court was informed that the Delhi government had issued a tender for distribution of sanitary napkins and meantime, the schools have been provided funds to procure napkins from the government e-marketplace for allotment.

The Court was also informed that the distribution has already begun and the tender will be finalized soon.

The Court noted that nothing survives in the petition as an interim measure has been put in place regarding this issue. Therefore, the case has been disposed of.
