The Delhi High Court denied bail of Umar Khalid, registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 Delhi Riots.

On March 3, the order was reserved by the Additional Session Judge of Karkardooma Court and was deferred on three different occasions.

Since the last 8 months of bail hearings, Senior Counsel Trideep Pais argued that many protested against the CAA and the protest was secular however, the charge sheet was communal. The case against Umar Khalid was borne out of malice. Moreover, the witness statements against Unat were inconsistent and the charge sheet looks like a television script.

Special Public Prosecutor, Amit Prasad argued in response to claiming the charge sheet communal that the first conviction in the mentioned case was of a Hindu. The 2020 Delhi Riots was a part of a deep-rooted conspiracy hatched by the accused persons.

In September 2020, Khalid was arrested and by November 2020 a charge sheet was filed against him under various provisions of UAPA and IPC
