4th May 2021

The Delhi HC was hearing a petition seeking suspension of construction or any other activity concerning the Central Vista Redevelopment Projects in the wake of the Covid 19 Pandemic to protect the life of workers involved in the project.

The Petition contended that the project has super spreading potential; it is an unmindful and reckless act of the union of India. It is a clear violation of the order passed by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. The construction is nowhere equated to essential work. When other construction activities are suspended, why not this?

Adv Siddharth Luthra appearing for the petitioner, prayed interim suspension of the construction work at the site in the wake of the second wave.

A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh showed its non-inclination of issuing such notice. The bench said it would like to study SC's judgment (The SC in January approved the plan) on the project and listed the matter on 17th May.
