The Delhi High Court expressed grave concern over the deteriorating air quality in the capital while acknowledging the cultural significance of events like Dussehra. The court stated, "We are Choking" due to extreme air pollution in Delhi and called for collective efforts to save the city's environment.

The division bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Neena Bansal Krishna made these remarks while allowing Janakpuri’s Shri Ram Leela Committee to celebrate Dussehra at the district park until October 30.

The court recognized the environmental concerns associated with such celebrations, including pollution, traffic congestion, and harm to trees, but emphasized the importance of these cultural activities.

It highlighted the need to regulate such events effectively rather than imposing a ban to strike a balance between cultural celebrations and environmental preservation.

The court permitted the use of the district park for the celebrations, ensuring compliance with environmental norms and the protection of existing greenery.

The decision cited previous orders that allowed Ramleela celebrations on the same grounds due to the appellant's long-standing tradition.

The court urged organizers to take measures to prevent harm to the environment while celebrating the festival.

Senior Advocate KK Manan and a team of advocates represented the appellants, while advocates represented the respondents.
