Delhi Lawyers To Abstain From Work On Monday Demanding A Speedy Investigation In The Lawyer-Shot Case
Yesterday, Advocate Virender Narwal was tragically shot and killed in broad daylight. In response, Bar associations throughout Delhi have come together to pay their respects and demand a swift investigation into the incident.
Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi, KK Manan, expressed that lawyers are calling for the assailants to be brought to justice as soon as possible. Vineet Jindal, Secretary General of the North Delhi Lawyer's Association, added that this senseless act of violence is an affront to the lawyer community in Delhi.
Narwal, who practiced law in the Dwarka court, was killed by two individuals on a motorcycle. According to a report from The Times of Time, police suspect the motive may be related to personal enmity, though no arrests have been made. It's worth noting that Narwal had been given security after a previous attack in 2017, but it was discontinued in 2021.
In a meeting held on Sunday, the Coordination Committee of All the District Bar Associations, Delhi decided to abstain from work on Monday. Lawyers are also advocating for the Advocates Protection Act to be finally implemented by the government.
