Every Sanitization Worker should be given a pamphlet enlisting their right- Allahabad HC
Case: In Re Ensuring The Security Of Life And Safety Of Health Of The Workmen And Employees Engaged
Court: Justices Chandra Kumar Rai and Manoj Kumar Gupta
The Allahabad High Court directed municipal authorities of Allahabad to widely publicize the rights of sanitary workers so that the government's schemes could serve their purpose. The bench noted that despite a lot of work being done in theory, the benefits have not yet reached the beneficiaries.
Thus, the bench directed the authorities to take concrete measures for the implementation of schemes.
Further, the bench directed the respondents to prepare a brief one-page pamphlet detailing the rights and entitlements of the sanitary workers. And to publicize the pamphlet in the newspapers, notice boards of the local body, and other mediums. These printed pamphlets were directed to be handed over to every sanitary worker.
Earlier, the bench had taken suo motu cognizance of a news report that sanitation workers in Allahabad were cleaning open drains without protective gear. The Bench had thus requested a response from different authorities in the State, including an explanation of why machines were not being used whenever possible.
