The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, has recently approved a number of important initiatives to promote the inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community at the Supreme Court. These initiatives include the construction of nine gender-neutral restrooms in different locations throughout the main building and additional complex of the Supreme Court, as well as the creation of a gender-neutral online Advocates Appearance Portal.

Currently, there is a proposal being considered to rename the Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee to the Gender and Sexuality Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee. This proposal aims to expand the committee's focus and scope.

This committee has also welcomed Senior Advocate Dr. Menaka Guruswamy as a member to ensure representation from the queer community.

These initiatives are aimed at creating a more inclusive and sensitive work environment for the LGBTQIA+ community at the Supreme Court. They were prompted by a request from Rohin Bhatt, a non-binary lawyer, who wrote to Justice Hima Kohli, Chairperson of the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, asking for gender-neutral bathrooms on every floor of the SC.
