HAVE FAITH ON HIGH COURT- SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed by Republic TV against the Mumbai Police’s summons to its top editors and executives concerning the investigation into the alleged manipulation of television ratings or TRPs.

The Apex court granted the news channel liberty to move to the Bombay High Court and contended that every individual must have faith in our High Courts. 

The Hon’ble Court further held that it would not be appropriate for the top court to intervene if it sent a bad message to the High Court as the High Court is functioning throughout the pandemic. 

Although few employees and officials of Republic TV appeared before Crime Branch and deposed their statement.

Republic TV contended that the summons was part of a “desperate witch hunt” by Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh. The news channel also accused the police of pursuing an agenda against the free press.
