Both the persons accused in the murder case of Dhanbad Additional District and Sessions judge Uttam Anand are convicted by a special court in Dhanbad. Lakhan Kumar Verma and Rahul Kumar Verma are convicted under 201 (disappearance of evidence) and  Sections 302 (murder) read with Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The hearing on sentencing will happen on August 6.

On July 28, 2021, judge Uttam Anand was knocked down by an auto-rickshaw, while he was on a walk. He suffered injuries and later died during treatment.

The incident was initially thought to be an accident, but CCTV footage of the incident suggests that the vehicle deliberately rammed into the judge as he walked along the edge of the road. The Jharkhand High Court took suo motu cognizance of the incident, the case was later decided to hand over the probe to CBI.

In response to outrage after the deadly incident, the Supreme Court of India also filed a suo motu case on safeguarding courts and ensuring the safety and security of judges.
