21st March 2021

The Kerela court directed the CBI to investigate a suicide case of two minor girls in 2017. The minor girls passed away under suspicious circumstances.

The eleven-year-old girl was found dead in her residence. The body was found by her nine-year-old sister, and later after two months, the younger sister was found dead as well. A crime was registered under Sec.174 of the Cr.P.C. upon receiving information that the girls had committed suicide. An investigation was held, and it revealed that offences punishable under Sec.376(2)(i),(n), 377, 305, 354 of IPC; Sec.5(l) r/w Sec.6,7 r/w Sec.8 of the POCSO Act and Sec.3(1)(w),(i) and 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST (POA) Act had been committed against the girls.

A trial was held for the accused in the Special Court for POCSO cases, but he was acquitted. Thus, an appeal was made in the High Court by the state and a writ petition for the retrial of the judgment. The trial judge was directed after the investigation agency filed a plea to investigate the case further.
