LAWYERS REQUEST WITHDRAWAL OF ORDER BY NCLT MANDATING PHYSICAL PRESENCE FOR HEARING: Mumbai NCLT

Over 750 lawyers practising in the National Company Law Tribunal have written to the acting President of NCLT requesting for withdrawal of the tribunal’s order - directing to commence physical hearing from 1st of March. Lawyers raised concern over the increasing Covid cases in the state of Maharashtra. As per reports, around 130 people died due to Covid within the last 2 days.

The representation also stated that most of the lawyers practising in NCLT are 50 and above; physical hearing would expose them to more risk. The representation also describes the premise of NClT  - Narrow corridors, majority of courtrooms are without windows, and insufficient lift, leading to overcrowding. Therefore, the lawyers requested withdrawal of the order.
