Man Arrested From Gujarat Pretending To Be An Official From The Prime Minister's Office
Kiran Patel, a man from Gujarat, was arrested for pretending to be an official from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). He was taken into custody from a five-star hotel where he was impersonating an additional secretary with the Government of India. Following a video conference hearing, the 1st Additional Munsiff in Srinagar ordered that he be placed in judicial custody for 15 days.
According to a senior police official, the accused had in his possession fake visiting cards and two mobile phones. He has been charged with multiple offenses under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to cheating, forgery, and the use of forged documents or electronic records.
Sources added that the accused, Kiran Patel, had traveled to various tourist destinations with 'Z plus' security during his time in Kashmir, including a location near the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir's Uri, Baramullah district. Patel has applied for bail, but the request is still pending before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Srinagar.
