NOTICE ISSUED IN PETITION FILED AGAINST CRUELTY COMMITTED ON THE ANIMALS

The Supreme Court has issued notice on a petition with regards to cruelty inflicted on zoo animals in the National Zoo in the name of breeding conservation for plants and animals, where animals are tortured in most heinous manner and are made terminally ill, and 75% of the plants are concretised.

The petitioner prayed for a direction for the appointment of Veterinarians and Zoology, Botany, Wildlife Sciences degree holders for the conservation of Animals and Plants in Zoo(captive breeding) and for the uniform administration for all zoo in the entire country one software and same to be made public for the transparency.

The petitioner has further requested for a direction for framing rules and regulation with an objective to ensure and implement effective and purposeful legal framework for the protection and welfare of Zoo Animals in India, in exercise of its inherent power under Article 142 of the Constitution, in the interest of justice and fairness.
