PLEA MOVED BEFORE THE SC QUASHING OF FIR AGAINST CITIZENS ALLEGEDLY CRTICIZING PM NARENDRA MODI

A petition has been moved by Adv Pradeep Kumar Yadav before the SC seeking quashing of FIRs registered by the Delhi Police against citizens who have allegedly put up posters criticizing Narendra Modi for mishandling the Covid 19 situation in the nation and the national vaccination policy. The plea also sought direction to call for records from the opposite parties regarding the registration of FIRs in this matter and to stop further registration of FIRs.
The Petitioner contended that citizens have the right to freedom of speech and expression. The alleged posters, which are going viral on social media, states, "MODIJI HUMARE BACHON KI VACCINE VIDESH KYON BHEJ DIYA?"
Background
On 15th May, the Delhi Police arrested 25 people at different police stations across the city related to the same. More than 17 FIRs were registered u/s 188 of IPC and other relevant sections.
