"PM's Temple Focus Bothers Me": Sam Pitroda Raises Concerns Ahead of 2024 Elections
As India gears up for the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the historic consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in January 2024, Sam Pitroda, the Overseas Chairman of the Indian National Congress, expressed his concerns over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on the temple. In an interview with ANI, Pitroda stated, "I see that democracy is undermined today. A PM of a country does not hold a press conference for 10 years, that bothers me. Prime Minister giving more time in the temple, that bothers me."
Pitroda highlighted the need to focus on pressing issues such as employment and inflation, asserting, "Real issues such as employment, and inflation are being sidelined as Ram Mandir has taken the central stage in the country." He questioned whether the Ram Temple is real or whether concerns like unemployment and inflation should take precedence.
Expressing his views on the upcoming elections and the absence of a prominent face from the INDIA bloc, Pitroda emphasized the importance of fighting on ideas rather than personalities. He stated, "The election should be fought on an idea. Who will safeguard the Constitution? Who will enhance your democracy? Who will provide jobs, and care for your health, and infrastructure? This is not a presidential election. It is a Parliamentary election. So you don't have to have a face but have an idea."
Pitroda drew criticism from BJP leaders for his comments on the Ram Temple, with Union MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar stating, "Sam Pitroda is a very good example of how far moved Congress is from the psyche of India, from the soul of India." Pitroda, however, defended his stance, asserting that one can practice their religion but it is essential to keep it separate from politics.
