"Politics Shouldn't Divert from Real Issues," Priyanka Gandhi Warns Against Playing Religious Cards
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, during a visit to Bhilai city in Chhattisgarh, cautioned people about potential attempts to manipulate voters along religious and caste lines as elections draw near. Without directly naming the BJP, she highlighted how the rules of politics have evolved over the years.
She recalled a past incident with her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, to illustrate the changing political landscape. Priyanka shared that her father had once been scolded by an elderly woman for a road that washed away in the rain. Despite this, he didn't feel offended, as both he and the woman were doing their duties. Priyanka emphasized that politics used to be different back then, with a focus on addressing real issues.
Priyanka noted the stark contrast in today's politics, where discussions about religion and caste often overshadow critical matters like water supply, roads, and employment. She criticized the diversionary tactics used by politicians to prevent citizens from asking the right questions about governance and development.
Priyanka also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not prioritizing basic amenities while allocating significant funds to other projects. She pointed out that while large sums were spent on initiatives like Yashobhoomi and the new Sansad Bhavan, people still faced problems like broken roads, unemployment, and rising prices. She stressed the need for a balanced approach that doesn't neglect the concerns of the poor and the middle class.
During her speech, Priyanka highlighted the welfare schemes implemented by the Congress government in Chhattisgarh since 2018 and their positive impact on various sections of society, especially women. She also criticized the central government's privatization of railway properties, ports, and airports.
As elections approach, Priyanka urged voters to be aware and ask politicians about their contributions. She emphasized the importance of questioning leaders about what they have done for the people. Priyanka encouraged support for Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, to continue the good work done over the last five years.
Priyanka's address in Chhattisgarh reflects the evolving dynamics of Indian politics, where issues of religion and caste often take center stage in election campaigns. Her call for voters to prioritize substantive questions about governance aligns with efforts to ensure that elections focus on the welfare and development of the people.
