PROVIDE LAPTOP TO STUDENTS- KARNATAKA HIGH COURT
29TH OCTOBER ,2020
The Hon’ble Karnataka High Court has issued a notice to the State Government while hearing petition on a Public Interest Litigation seeking directions to immediately formulate a plan to ensure to provide low-cost Tablets, Laptops or any other electronic gadget to the school children of economically weaker sections so that it will be convenient for them to attend online classes.
The instant petition states that the respondent is not providing the proper and adequate online resources to the students. It is violative of the Article 21-A read with the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education, 2009 (“Right To Education Act”) read with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010
Majority of students are unable to attend Online classes as they don't have access to the proper resources. This deprives the economically weaker section students of proper education, hence such an act violates the Article 14[ii] of Indian Constitution.
