In two separate cases, the Anti-Narcotics Cell ("Cell") of Pune has seized Marijuana and Brown Sugar worth over Rs 1 lakh from the three-drug peddlers, now arrested. The cell seized over 3.5 kilograms of Marijuana and 6.2. grams of Brown Sugar. 

The officials received information about the alleged drug peddler and accordingly, set a trap in the Sutarwadi area of Pashan. One of the accused, Mohammad Waseem Mohammad Sameer (30) was detained by the police and was found in possession of over 3.5 kilograms of Marijuana. During the investigation, he revealed that he was supplied the seized Marijuana from another person named Chandrakant Pandit Khandale. Chandrakant was also later arrested by the police.

A case under sections 8(c), 20 (b) (ii), and 29 of the Prevention of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) has been registered against both peddlers at the Chaturshringi police station.

In another case, the cell has arrested Akash Ramling Ovhal (27) from the Ramtekdi area of Hadapsar. After receiving inputs from the informants, the Police team seized 6.2 grams of Brown Sugar from his possession. A case has been registered at Wanowrie Police station under sections 8(c), 21(b), and 29 of the NDPS. 

Pune Police officials are investigating further in both cases.

 

Section 8: Prohibition of certain activities relating to property derived from offence.

Section 8 (a): cultivate any coca plant or gather any portion of coca plant; 

Section 8 (b):  produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-State, export inter-State, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance;

Section 21 (a): where the contravention involves a small quantity, with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to [one year], or with fine which may extend to ten thousand rupees, or with both.
