SC REJECTED 1984 ANTI-SIKH RIOTS CONVICT SAJJAN KUMAR'S BAIL APPLICATION
The Supreme Court of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundresh rejected the plea filed by Sajjan Kumar, a 1984 anti-Sikh riots convict, seeking bail on medical grounds. The bench also rejected Kumar's request to get him transferred to Medanta hospital to improve his health at his own expense.
"He is accused of horrendous crimes. You want him to be treated like a VIP patient?" - Justice Kaul.
Counsel for the Petitioner, Ranjit Kumar, submitted that Sajjan was losing weight due to abdominal complexities and deteriorating health. He further presented a report of Sajjan's deteriorating health.
However, the Court relied on the reports submitted by the medical board and refused to pass any order. "We will not pass any order unless the medical board considers it necessary to transfer Kumar for further treatment at Medanta".
