Siddique Kappan's bail plea was rejected by Allahabad High Court

Justice Krishan Pahal of the Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail plea moved by journalist Siddique Kappan who has been booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The Single-bench Justice rejected Kappan's plea against a Sessions Court order denying him bail.

In October 2020, Kappan, a Malayalam news portal Azhimukham reported and secretary of the Delhi unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), was arrested while on his way to Hathras to report on the murder and gang-rape of a 19-year-old Dalit girl. Kappan along with three others was charged under the UAPA and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technologies Act

A Mathura court rejected Kappan's bail plea in July 2021 on the grounds that Kappan and other co-accused were trying to disturb the situation when they were heading to cover the Hathras gang rape incident in UP.
