STILL TRYING TO BREAK HIS PRECONCEIVED NOTION ON SAME-SEX RELATIONSHIPS - MADRAS HC
30th March 2021
Justice N. Anand Venkatesh of Madras High Court observed while dealing with a protection plea of the same-sex couple that he is still trying to break his preconceived notion on same-sex relationships.
He expressed his desire to conduct the matter on camera as it involved a sensitive issue.
Background.
The petitioners were friends for two years and stated before the court that their friendship blossomed into love, and they decided to live with each other forever. The parents of the respected petitioner came to know about their love and were not likely to them; hence they left their residing place Madurai and shifted to Chennai. The petitioners were supported by an NGO named PVC and are looking for a job for their financial needs.
The parents expressed their feelings in the court after and stated that they immediately can not accept the relationship and were worried about their security. The court thought it fit that the parents and petitioner undergo counselling specialized in LGBTQI+ individuals.
Court's observation.
The remark passed by Justice that he spends time doing some research before concluding an issue, and it would have been possible for him to pack his order and get applauded outside for remarkable order, but his conscience kept calling him that exercising his orders would only be hypocritical as the order will not reveal the true and honest feeling about this critical issue.
