The Bombay HC, in the case of Ajinkya Mohan Udane v. Registrar General, Bombay High
Court has decided to allow the use of A4 size paper front and back for filing of pleadings in the Hon'ble HC.

Advocate SR Nargolkar, appearing for the HC administration, informed the Bombay HC bench that a notification had been already issued in the gazette on July 6 2021, to amend the Bombay High Court (Appellate Side) Rules, 1960 and Bombay High Court (Original
Side) Rules, 1980 in order to regularise the use of A4 on both sides.

Advocate PR Katneshwarkar, appearing for the petitioner Ajinkya Mohan Udane enquired
whether the notification is applicable to subordinate courts as well. To which Adv Nargokar informed the bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni that the notification is only applicable to HCs of the country.

The Hon'ble HC bench directed Adv Katneshwarkar to make a representation to the registrar general of the High Court to issue directions to subordinate courts of Maharashtra to allow the use of A4 size paper on both sides for filing of pleadings.

On Wednesday, a circular was issued to the HC benches of Maharashtra directing to use of A4
