A single-judge bench comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait stayed trial court proceeding in the INX Media money laundering case in CBI's plea challenging the order passed the special CBI judge directing CBI to supply all documents and statements recorded during the investigation to the accused persons including former Union Minister P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram.

Adv Anupam S Sharma appearing for CBI argued that the trial court wrongly directed to supply the documents at the stage of section 207 of the Criminal procedure code. Accused persons are only entitled to documents relied upon by the prosecution.

The Delhi HC after hearing Adv Sharma issued notice and sought responses from the accused persons.

The CBI filed an FIR on 15th May 2017 alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to INX Media for receiving overseas funds worth Rs 305 cr during Chidambaram's tenure as the finance minister.
