The Madras High Court has recently launched its e-filing initiative, including an e-bail bond system
The Madras High Court has recently launched its e-filing initiative, including an e-bail bond system, to reduce delays in the release of undertrial prisoners who have secured bail. Currently, the electronic filing system is mandatory only for Anticipatory bail applications. However, Justice M Sundar, chairperson of the digitization committee, stated that the e-filing system will soon be extended to other petitions. He thanked the members of the bar who have already become users of the e-filing system for their support and enthusiasm.
Justice Sundar explained the components and benefits of the e-filing system, with the E-bail bond system being the most significant. He stated that the e-bail bond system will eliminate delays in receiving bail orders and ensure that inmates are not kept in prison even after being granted bail because the bail order has not been conveyed to the relevant prison authorities. He added that the e-bail bonds module will guarantee the authenticity of bail grants and eliminate any delay in delivering bail copies to the concerned prison.
Justice Sundar also mentioned that the e-filing system will provide litigants with the option of receiving certified copies online or through courier delivery at their doorstep for a fee. This will allow for more convenient and efficient access to necessary documents for litigants.
