THE SC DISMISSED A PIL BY A LAWYER SEEKING COMPENSATION FOR A KIN LAWYER WHO DIED DUE TO COVID-19, STATING IT BOGUS
The Supreme Court bench of justices DY Chandrachud, Vikram Nath and Hima Kohli refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation seeking a compensation of Rs 5 Lakhs to kin of an advocate who died due to Covid-19 at the age of 60 years.
The bench called out the PIL bogus and said, "Just because you wear a black coat, it does not mean your life is more precious than others". "A lot of individuals die, and you cannot be an exception. It won't happen that lawyers will file a PIL seeking compensation, and the court will allow such a petition."
The bench further stated that the top court had already passed orders and judgments regarding compensation to the victims of covid-19. "There is not even a single suitable ground in your PIL for seeking such compensation. Therefore we will have to impose a penalty on you."
We have to stop advocates from filing such bogus Public Interest Litigations.
