THE TOP COURT DIRECTED COMPENSATION OF 2K TO KHORI GAON DWELLERS
Recently, the Top Court asked the Faridabad Municipal Corporation ("Corporation") to give ₹2,000 per month to each person who is allotted flats after they were evicted as part of the Khori Gaon jhuggi demolition drive. The Court noted that people affected by the demolition are being forced to live outside since the allotted premises lack water and drainage facilities.
The order was passed by a Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, AS Oka, and CT Ravikumar said that the "Corporation must take responsibility. All of these people must be compensated by you." "Until the persons have a habitable place to stay, the Corporation has to pay compensation."
Senior Advocate Sanjay Parikh, appearing for the petitioners, informed the Bench despite the assurance that the flats will be ready by April 30, the situation has not changed. "They sleep under sheets and faced the wrath of winter and will now face vagaries of summer. The Corporation has to submit the deadline for the final handover and what is the outer limit."
Counsel for the State submitted that by end of April 2022, 1,022 eligible persons will be provided permanent allotments inhabitable conditions.
After hearing the parties, the bench directed the Corporation to pay 2,000 per month.
