TM JM WAS ATTACKED BY OFFICE ASSISTANCE IN CHAMBER

Tamil Nadu's Salem district Judicial Magistrate was stabbed by his assistant inside the court complex. M Ponpandy was attacked by his office assistant, A Prakash, inside the judge's chamber.

The judicial Magistrate suffered minor injuries and has been admitted to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.

The police registered a case against Prakash under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Hasthampatti police alleged that Prakash was unhappy as he was recently transferred from Omalur court. He asked the JM the reasons for the transfer. To which, the JM informed that the transfer was ordered by Principal District Judge. Suddenly, Prakash took out a knife and attacked the Magistrate.

Since July 2021, the safety of judges has been a major talking point among the legal fraternity. After various instances of attaching on judges, the Delhi High Court issued a set of directions to strengthen safety measures inside courts in the national capital.
