TRAI HAS ORDERED AIRTEL, VODAFONE TO SUBMIT SEGMENTED OFFER DETAILS
6TH NOVEMBER,2020
The Supreme Court has ordered Vodafone Idea and Bharati Airtel to submit facts regarding segmented offers to India's Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI). The Supreme court has assured both the companies that the information provided by them will stay confidential. Segmented tariffs are plans offered by the company to the users who want to leave the network as retention SOPs.
The three-judge bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, has stated that TRAI had issued such regulations to increase transparency amongst customers; thus, the same cannot be questioned. TRAI has made it mandatory for all telecom companies to report all such offers, but the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had cancelled the order. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea opposed the plea on the basis that it would violate commercial privacy and help competitors reach their subscribers.
