Police seized over Rs 53 lakh worth of oxytocin vials from 260 boxes.

Over Rs, 53 lakh worth of oxytocin vials were seized from 260 boxes seized by the Pune crime branch during the illegal sale of oxytocin hormone. Sameer Qureshi (29) and his five accomplices kept stock of Oxytocin drugs. To increase milk production, they injected these drugs into cows and buffaloes.

The oxytocin hormone plays a key role in reproduction, pregnancy, childbirth, and post-partum activity. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Union Government restricts the manufacture and use of oxytocin for domestic purposes. And export of this drug is also banned.

In Kalwad Vasti of Lohgaon, an officer of the Anti-Narcotics Squad discovered an illegal stock of drugs used for increasing the milk production of cows and buffaloes. Following the raid, the police seized 260 boxes containing oxytocin vials worth Rs 53 lakh from the site.

FDA warns that Oxytocin hormone injections into cows and buffaloes are harmful to the cattle and humans consuming the milk. There are increased chances of serious disorders like anemia, visual impairment, stomach problems, jaundice in newborns, bleeding in pregnant women, unnatural abortions, respiratory problems, and skin problems from it.
