A defamation complaint has been filed against the makers of Jai Bhim for allegedly maligning the reputation of the Vanniyar community by changing the name of the sub-Inspector of Police. They tortured the victim in police custody. "The accused persons deliberately changed the name of the sub-inspector, who tortured the victim. In real life, the name of the sub-inspector was Anthonysamy, who was Christian by religion."

The complainant further alleged that the Sub-Inspector is named "Guru," in the movie, who resembles one of the frontline leaders of the Vanniyar Sangam, thereby imputing that the members of the community are likely to commit wrong. The makers also insulted the community's holy symbol of Agni Kundam by printing it on a calendar with the caption "Kshatriya Kula Manadu, Villupuram." This clearly establishes the intention of the accused persons in damaging the reputation of the entire Vanniyar community.

The complainant, Pu Tha Arulmozhi, State president of the Vanniyar Sangam, prayed the court to proceed against the makers of the film and punish them for the offences.

The film Jai Bhim portrays Justice K Chandru's real-life story, who brought justice to the tribal family of Rajakannu, who was tortured in police custody to death.
