Advocates and law students have written a detailed letter to the Chief Justice of India on 23rd June 2021, requesting the Supreme Court to take suo moto action and direct the law ministry to make law governing cruelty against men by inserting lacuna in the law.

The letter noted that the cruelty against men is increasing day by day in modern times, both mentally and physically. It was stated that in the current scenario, the remedy given under section 498A of IPC fails to protect the legal right of aggrieved men and is unsuccessful to qualify the test of gender neutrality.

However, the ratio has been increased in men's suicide by 48% and reduced by 2% in women's. The letter also mentioned that a tribal man had been killed on the failure of Deja (reverse dowry) by his in-laws. Further, it stated that false allegations had been made in regards to section 498A.

In the given matter, the letter highlighted that crime has no gender, and everyone should dissuade from committing it. It further stated that laws in India must recognize that men too have mental burnout and are also victims of cruelty.
