An appeal has been filed by petitioners Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi in the SC against Delhi HC's judgment (31st May) declining to the halt Central Vista Project and imposing a fine of 1 Lakh petitioners, on the ground that the petition was motivated and lacked bonafide.

The Petitioner Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi were directed to deposit Rs 1 lakh with the Delhi Legal Services Authority.

The Petitioner contended that the impugned Judgment of the Delhi HC would have a chilling effect on the spirited individuals raising genuine issues relating to public health and other public related issues.

The petitioners said they filed the Petition intending to spread public health and safety awareness after becoming aware of the construction work at the site. Since it may be a potential spreader of covid 19 and risk to the lives of the health workers, we filed the petition with bonafide intention. But the Delhi HC bench - Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh dismissed the petition stating that the project is vital for the nation and could not be stopped.
