13th April 2021

The order for extension of Interim Relief has been granted to Arnab Goswami by the Bombay High Court. He is free from personally appearing before a Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Alibaugh for the abetment of a suicide case against him.

The bench observed an amended plea of Arnab Goswami to quash the FIR filed in 2018 against him in the case of interior designer Anvay Naik's suicide.

He was first granted Interim Relief on March 5th till April 16, then the representatives from the Arnab side approached the High Court as 15, 16, and 17 being declared holiday because of the pandemic. The court listed the hearing on April 23rd for Interim Relief.

Background

Goswami and two other accused have been charged for the abetment of the suicide case of Anvay Naik. Anvay Naik (53), and his mother, Kumud, committed suicide because of the non-payment by Goswami and his firm. The case was closed for lack of evidence in 2019 and was reopened in 2020. He was arrested on November 4th by the Raigad police station and was under judicial custody for two weeks. On November 11, he was released from custody after the Bombay High Court rejected to grant him interim bail. The judicial Magistrate in December 2020 shouldered cognizance of the charge sheet that was filed by the Raigad Police station. The magistrate asked him to appear on March 10/21.
