BAR COUNCIL OF UP HAS WRITTEN A LETTER TO THE ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE OF ALLAHABAD HC TO RELEASE INMATES TO DECONGEST PRISONS

Members of the Bar Council of UP has written a letter to the Hon'ble Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad HC seeking parole or interim bail for under trial prisoners or convicts for offences whose prescribed punishment is up to 7 years or less.
The second wave of Covid 19 has created havoc, which has proved to be more dangerous. Reports indicate doubling of infection in UP jails due to flouting of social distancing Norma on account of congestion in jails. The only solution available to decongest the prisoners is to maintain social distancing.
Earlier, during the first wave of Covid 19, a high-powered committee was formed to release such prisoners to decongest the jail. Thereby breaking the chain of virus and saving thousands of lives.
The Bar Council further added that the inmate in jails is irreparably suffering, firstly because of the spread of the virus and secondly because of not having speedy justice. Therefore, it is prayed in the light of justice that appropriate order is passed.
