CALCUTTA HC GRANT INTERIM BAIL TO FOUR TMC LEADER IN THE NARADA CASE
The five-judge bench of Calcutta HC decided to grant interim bail to four TMC leader in the
Narada case, subject to a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties. The court has also ordered the 4 TMC leaders to not speak to the media relating anything to the case. In
an addition that they should make themselves available to the CBI whenever required.
SG Tushar Mehta urged the bench not to grant interim bail, as they are highly influential
people, and that can affect the probe of the case.
The matter will be heard on 31st May
BACKGROUND
1. After the arrest of the 4 TMC leaders, a special CBI court granted bail.
2. On the same day, a Divisional bench of HC stayed on the decision of granting bail.
3. On appeal on the stay order, an appeal was filed before a division bench. The bench had
a slit opinion on granting of interim bail.
4. The case was referred to a five-judge bench; meanwhile, the 4 TMC leaders were on the house
arrest.
5. The CBI moved SC against the order of the division bench of granting House arrest.
6. However, the Apex court refused to entertain the same
