After a year of massive protest and death of nearly 700 farmers, the Central Government took a U-turn and decided to repeal the three controversial reform Farm Laws. On the occasion of Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the three laws will be repealed in the parliament session that starts at the end of this month.

The Three laws, names:

  •  Farmers Agreement of Price Assurance & Farm Services Act 2020,

  •  Farmers Produce Trade & Commerce Act,

  • The Amendment to Essential Commodities Act has been challenged before the Top Court.

On January 12, 2021, the SC stayed the implementation of the laws. It directed the formation of a committee to hear the grievances and arguments of the parties and submit a report to the Court. The committee subsequently submitted a report in March.
