5th May 2021

The Centre moved to the SC against Delhi HC's order of show cause notice on why contempt action should not be taken against the Central government for non-compliance with the Court's order to provide/supply oxygen to the Delhi Government.

Justice NV Ramana said to SG Tushar Mehta that Justice Chandrachud should hear the case and as per his convenience, the case will be listed.

Delhi HC issued the notice after the central government failed to comply with the SC's order that directed the centre to issue 700MT per day liquid medical oxygen to the Delhi Government. Justice Vipin Singh and Rekha Palli directed the central government officers (who are handling oxygen allocations) to present themselves and explain their failure to comply with the order. The Delhi HC also said that the central government gave assurance to the SC Court but which is certainly not fulfilled. Moreover, we are seeing several hospitals running to us for emergency supply of oxygen
