21st April 2021

A Delhi couple who had allegedly misbehaved with police officers after they were stopped for not wearing masks and roaming during the weekend curfew were sent to jail on Monday after a local court dismissed their bail application. Earlier in April, the Delhi HC mandated wearing facemasks, even when alone inside their car. Despite the decision, the couple continued to argue with the police. Moreover, they challenged the police to take action against them. They started hurling abuses and provoking the policemen.

The couple was booked under the relevant section of the IPC and Disaster management Act, 2005 (DDMA). During the interrogation, the couple, identified as Pankaj and Abha from Patel naval, blamed each other; the man claimed that his wife had been fighting in the car and refused to cover her mouth or let him wear one. The woman blamed the man.

The DCP, in his statement, said that despite the aggressive and provocative behaviour, the policemen on duty remained calm. He further appealed to the citizens to not violate the law covid guidelines.
