Delhi High Court Stresses Discipline in Educational Institutions, Bars Politicization
In a recent judgment on the case of Swati Singh v JNU, the Delhi High Court has asserted that educational institutions must not transform into platforms for political propagation, emphasizing the importance of discipline among students. Justice C Hari Shankar noted that while students have the right to engage in political activities, it should not disrupt the normal functioning or order of educational institutions.
The court's observation serves as a reminder that educational campuses should not be utilized as arenas for party politics. Justice Shankar clarified that while promoting genuine causes is acceptable, it must not compromise the primary function of educational institutions: to educate the future leaders of society.
"Institutions of learning cannot be allowed to be converted into political platforms, to propagate party politics," the court stated firmly. The judgment underscores the significance of maintaining a conducive environment for education and ensuring that students' activities do not hinder the regular functioning of educational institutions.
The court also stressed the need for stringent measures against disruptive activities by students, emphasizing that there is no room for sympathy in such cases. The judgment aligns with the principle that while students have the right to express their political views, it should not infringe upon the core purpose of educational institutions.
