DISTRICT COURT ACQUITS 4 ACCUSED OF BEATING AND ATTACKING A MAULANA
5th April 2021
Recently, an Additional District Court in Pune acquitted four accused under sec 307 for attacking a Maulana, who had allegedly shared obscene images of Hindu Gods on Social media.
BACKGROUND
As per the story of the public prosecutor, on 31st May 2014, some obscene and vulgar images of Hindu God went viral, which caused tension between various Hindu-Muslim groups in Pune. On 1st June 2014, Maulana was waiting outside the mosque with his brother when the accused came on a bike and started breathing them with wooden logs. The victim was beaten for no reason; they had nothing to do with the obscene images. The accused attempted to murder the victim only because of Hindu-Muslim tension.
Adv Milind appearing for the accused said that the accused were falsely implicated in the case. The victim lodged a complaint only on the directions given to him by Muslim group members. Moreover, the victim has admitted that he does not understand Marathi as he originally hailed from West Bengal. Adv contended that as per the complaint the victim mentioned that the accused had beaten him because they thought he shared obscene pictures whereas as per the admission the victim does not understand Marathi.
DECISION
The Court ruled that there is not enough evidence available to convict the accused and therefore acquitted the accused.
